One of the modern masters of cinema, Nuri Bilge Ceylan was born in Istanbul. Each of his film has been presented, and won awards at major festivals. His film Uzak (2003) is the most awarded Turkish film. It won 47 awards, including Grand Prix at Cannes. With Once Upon A Time In Anatolia (2011), he won Grand Prix again. Three Monkeys (2008) won him Best Director at Cannes, while Climates (2006), Winter Sleep (2014) won FIPRESCI awards. With Winter Sleep, he also won Palme d’Or. He is considered to be one of the most influential directors, working in world cinema right now.
