Born in 1979 in Kozhikode, Sandeep Pampally is a writer and director and has won various National and International accolades in this field. In 2014 he was awarded International Global Voice award held at Muskoka, Canada for the best social cause movie Laadam. Film Critic Award for short Lorry Girl. Pampally also is an artist who has conducted two art exhibitions at Kozhikode. Also, for a long time he was an actor with All India Radio, Kozhikode. He has published 3 books and won several state awards as short story writer
Sinjar revolves around Ansar, and ordinary fisherman living in Kavaratti (in Lakshadweep Isles), his sister Suhara and his fiancée Fida. The movie captures how the two ladies, who are held captive and exploited by the ISIS terrorists in Sinjar, a place near Iraq, survive and fight the communal situation in Kavaratti when they return. One of the women decides to bring up her illegitimate child into this world and raise his as a good Muslim.
Sinjar is the first Jasari language film, from the isles of Lakshadweep.
