Director’s Biography :

Vetrimaaran

Vetrimaaran is an Indian film director, film producer and screenwriter who primarily works in Tamil cinema. As of 2021, he has won five National Film Awards, eight Ananda Vikatan Cinema Awards and two Filmfare South Awards. Vetrimaaran made his directorial debut with Polladhavan (2007). His second feature film Aadukalam (2011) won six National Film Awards. He produces films under his production company, Grass Root Film Company. His 2016 directorial Visaranai was selected as India's official entry to the Academy Awards. His film Asuran (2019) received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil. He is also the founder of International Institute of Film and Culture (IIFC).

Synopsis :

1987, TAMIL NADU
Following the dastardly act of bombing a railway bridge which resulted in 25 civilian deaths, The People's Army, an armed anti-government outfit poses a big threat to the stability and peace in the region. A special police battalion is tasked with capturing the leader of the People's Army - Perumal Dead or alive. Kumaresan, a new police recruit arrives at the camp. He forms a bond with a local girl Thamizharasi. He bears witness to the stalled progress of a people due to militant activity in the region. His empathy for the public earns him the wrath of his superiors. The indigenous people's unwavering support for Perumal and his movement baffles Kumaresan. Thus Perumal successfully evades capture. The frustrated police force resort to detaining and torturing the villagers to get intel on the leader's whereabouts. To save Thamizharasi and her villagers from further harassment by the police, Kumaresan, reveals Perumal's whereabouts to his superiors. The rookie cop manages to nab Perumal.
