Director's Biography:

Stéphane Brizé

Director and screenwriter Stéphane Brizé was born in 1966, in Rennes, France. After studying electronics, he entered drama school in Paris. Between 1993 and 1996, he filmed two short subjects that won several awards. Since 1999, he has directed most notably Mademoiselle Chambon, A Few Hours of Spring and The Measure of a Man. The latter was in competition in Cannes in 2015. A Woman’s Life, adapted from the eponymous novel by Guy Maupassant, was in competition in Venice in 2016, where it received the Prix Louis Delluc. Many of his films deal with the effects of the financialization of the economy on men and women.

Synopsis:

Mathieu lives in Paris, Alice in a small seaside resort in Western France. He is a famous actor, about to turn fifty. She is a piano teacher in her forties. They were in love fifteen years ago, then separated. Time has passed. They each went their ways and slowly healed. When Mathieu tries to overcome his melancholia in a thermal spa, he stumbles upon Alice.
