Director’s Biography:

Avinash Shriram Shembatwad

Avinash Shembatwad, a civil servant and executive magistrate in Dhanora taluka, Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, is also a passionate filmmaker. His debut feature, Yathavkash, portrays the struggles of competitive exam aspirants, with its cast and crew drawn entirely from this community. His short film, Chunaav, made for the Election Commission of Maharashtra, received critical acclaim, winning multiple awards, including "Best Experimental Director" at the 14th Pune Short Film Festival. His latest work, The Lost Paradise, is inspired by his experiences as a Tahsildar working with tribal communities in Jiwati taluka, Chandrapur. Shembatwad’s films reflect his commitment to social issues and storytelling.


Synopsis:

'The Lost Paradise' tells the story of Adivasis ( tribals) of Jiwati taluka in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra, who live in the far-flung corner of Maharashtra, on the edge of Telengana border. A neglected region for many decades, the Adivasis have suffered much and continue to do so as they lose their forests to mining. The challenge of holding on to ancient rites and customs in the face of burgeoning modernisation and crop failures due to climate change. the film explores the philosophy and a tribal way of living in harmony with nature.
