Director's Biography:

Mahdi Fleifel

Mahdi Fleifel is a Palestinian-Danish director who graduated from the NFTS in the UK. He has directed short films including A Man Returned (2016), Silver Bear Jury Prize for Best Short Film in Berlin, A Drowning Man (2017), BAFTA nominated participant in the Cannes short film competition, and I Signed The Petition (2018), winner of Best Short Documentary at the Amsterdam Documentary Festival (IDFA) also nominated for the European FIlm Awards. His first feature-length documentary, A World Not Ours (2012) premiered in Toronto and participated in the Panorama section of the Berlin Festival, where it landed the Peace Film Prize. The second, To a Land Unknown, screened at the Quinzaine des Cinéastes in Cannes.

Synopsis:

Chatila and Reda are saving to pay for fake passports to get out of Athens. But when Reda loses their hard-earned cash to his dangerous drug addiction, Chatila hatches an extreme plan, which involves them posing as smugglers and taking hostages in an effort to get him and his best friend out of their hopeless environment before it is too late.
