Chinese nationality Born on August 11th, 1988 in Fuyang, Hangzhou (China) Gu Xiaogang was born in Fuyang, Hangzhou. While studying Costume Design and Marketing in university, he discovered filmmaking and started to be interested in documentaries. He has finished his first feature, Dwelling in the FuchunMountains(Cannes Critics’ Week, closing film), which was shot during the four seasons over the course of two years. It will be the first film of his Scroll Painting Trilogy, “A Thousand Miles along the Eastern Yangtze”.
At her 70th birthday celebration, the aged mother of the Gu family suffers from a stroke, which precipitates her decline into dementia. The four brothers face crucial changes in their relationships to one another, as they deal with their own family problems. Their destinies, linked by love and challenged by questions and dilemmas, unfold over the course of four seasons, as in an ancient Chinese scroll painting.
