Paolo Sorrentino (Naples, Italy. 1970) made his debut with One Man Up (2001), screened in Cinema del Presente at Venice. He has competed in Cannes with The Consequences of Love (2004), The Family Friend (2006), Il Divo (2008), This Must Be the Place (2011), The Great Beauty (2012), Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and Youth (2016), winner of three European Film Awards. Completing his filmography are Loro (2018) and The Hand of God (2021), Grand Jury Prize in Venice and Academy Award nominee. Parthenope competed at Cannes, where it landed the CST Award for its director of cinematography.
The long journey of Parthenope’s life, from her birth in 1950 till today. A feminine epic, devoid of heroism but brimming with an inexorable passion for freedom, Naples, and the faces of love—all those true, pointless, and unspeakable loves.
